God’s Message Underneath The Basket Paperback – March 13, 2026

It was 2001 and I was sitting in Level One Barber Shop in Raleigh, NC with a couple of friends and the owner of the shop. I got a call from one of my old basketball teammates named Anthony “Bird” Anderson. “I have something that I know you need”. “You gave it to me, and I told you I would keep it for you. I know you don’t have it”. It had been years since I had seen him and I had no idea what he was talking about.Minutes later he pulled up to the shop and handed me a picture. You would have thought he handed me a ghost. It was a picture of me and “The Goat” at New Bern Sr. High School. I reflected on December 19, 1980. The roar of the crowd was deafening, and they stormed the court after we had defeated Laney.I could also hear God’s whisper, “write the book”. It was the voice that I had heard over the years employing me to act. Anthony’s voice broke me out of my trance. “You okay, he asked?” I said yes, but deep inside I knew I wasn’t. But it was at that moment that I began a journey and while it had taken me years to finish the assignment, I did it.
