In direct contrast to ancient Greek times, modern day education oftentimes does not have philosophy as a mandatory subject on any level, from primary through to university level. In fact, many elite university graduates have never taken a course in philosophy. Philosophy was the backbone of the evolution of knowledge through time. The original meaning of the ancient Greek word for philosophy is to love wisdom. It makes one wonder how much creative thought that basic philosophical understanding can unlock within our current population.Philosophy is oftentimes perceived to be notoriously difficult to learn & understand. Many concepts are buried within dry textbooks. In fact, it may be easy to forget that famous philosophers were humans too. They had their own quirky lives, as they diverged from the norms of ancient thought. This picture book introduces people to prominent ancient Greek philosophers’ philosophies through a selection of their life stories in a fun & easily approachable manner. The book covers 21 philosophers and about 40 of their stories and ideas. Each story is captured in a page with an illustration inspired by paintings on ancient Greek pottery and the story’s text. These philosophers’ life stories were enshrined in the works of others, passed down via lores through history. Accordingly, although it’s difficult to verify all these stories, they do reveal the humanness of these brilliantly eccentric characters. This book does not seek to be exhaustive in terms of explanations, stories, or philosophers. We merely hope that this book is an entertaining read & to share our passion for philosophy with more people. Read more
