Grow a garden filled with Holy Basil herbs, from freshly harvested Ocimum sanctum herb seeds. Holy Basil is known to be a sacred herb to the Hindu people. Often referred to as "Tulsi," these herbs have been consumed to improve ones immune health. The leaves are Anise scented and can be used in tea, or as a potpourri. Holy Basil plants will mature to a height of roughly 18 to 20 inches tall, and can spread roughly 8 to 12 inches wide. The green, scented leaves are accented with small purple flowers at the tops of each plant. These herbs can begin to be harvested in roughly 90 days. Holy Basil is categorized as an annual flowering herb. Annuals will grow quickly from freshly harvested Ocimum sanctum seeds, displaying their scented leaves and flowers through the summer months. The leaves can be harvested and allowed to regrow. If left outside with harsh frosts, the plants will then wilt and die. Seeds can be collected from these herbs if they are allowed to bolt in the late season.

  • Spiritual Symbolism: Holy Basil, or Tulsi, is highly revered in Hinduism, often planted in homes and temples for its sanctity, symbolizing purity and devotion.
  • Medicinal Properties: Recognized for its adaptogenic qualities, it helps combat stress, boost immunity, and is used in Ayurvedic medicine for various ailments like respiratory issues and diabetes.
  • Growing Holy Basil: Thrives in warm, sunny environments with well-drained soil; seeds germinate in about 2 weeks, and the plant can reach 18 to 20 inches, needing consistent moisture without waterlogging.
  • Culinary and Ecological Use: While used less in Western cooking, it's popular in teas and some Asian dishes for its unique flavor. It also attracts beneficial insects, enhancing garden biodiversity.
  • Quality: All Basil seeds packaged by Seed Needs are intended for the current and the following growing seasons. All seeds are stored in a temperature controlled facility that is free of significant amounts of moisture.
  • Quantity: Seed Needs offers generous quantities. You can share with friends and family, or you can save the extra seeds until the following season, if properly stored.
  • Packets: Each seed packet displays an artful illustration of the variety to be grown, as well as detailed seed sowing information on the reverse side. They measure 3.5" wide by 5" tall.
  • Promise: Seed Needs will never knowingly supply GMO based seed products. The vast majority of our seeds are open pollinated & heirloom, with the exception of a few hybrids.
  • Germination: Seed Needs packets contain some of the freshest seed available. Direct from the growers. If sown correctly, you will begin seeing results in only a matter of days.
  • Freshness: All basil seeds are packaged in tear resistant and moisture resistant packaging. This keeps the seeds a whole lot fresher than the competitions selection!
