Gabriel Laurent Bordelon, progenitor of the Louisiana Bordelon family and employee of the Compagnie des Indes, appeared for the first time in Louisiana documents in February 1730 when he married Anne Françoise Roland in New Orleans. Less than two years later, he was mentioned for the last time - in November 1731 - and likely died sometime after that date leaving behind two young sons to spread the Bordelon surname in Louisiana and beyond. Although born in the northern port city of Le Havre, France, little has been known about his ancestry until now - and what a remarkable ancestry it is!Cathy (Lemoine) Sturgell, a Bordelon descendant and long-time genealogist, has spent the last few years tracing the ancestral lines of both of Gabriel's parents through France as well as many other parts of the European continent. After breaking through several previously impenetrable brick walls, she was amazingly surprised by the extent of the genealogical information located on this family. Not only did she find troves of information about the parents and siblings of Gabriel Laurent, but she was able to document his illustrious ancestry which will surprise all Bordelon descendants.
